The tomato plants are dying. You can see them behind this vase of hydrangeas. Many of the leaves have turned black or brown. And the fruit still on the plants are rotting. Except for the cherry tomato plants. In fact, last night I picked a few dozen for a pizza I made.

Cooked in a cast iron skillet it had homemade pesto on it, Gouda cheese, mushrooms, red onion and, of course, those freshly picked cherry tomatoes.
Here is a photo of me getting ready to make the pesto.

Once the pesto is made, I pour it into ice cube trays, freeze, and used it throughout the year. Recipe here.

While the tomato plants look sad and tired, the Zinnias are thriving and attract butterflies every day.

The Finches also land upon the Zinnias and nibble the petals, but I have to be quick to photograph them as they stay for such a short time.

Tomorrow, I plan to dig up the tomato plants.
