My Gift to My Wife on Christmas

,

A watercolor and a poem.

For Susan
On Christmas 2025

A gift.
This is
A Place.
A Table
Round, of grace.
A heart shaped rose
Rises from a gold vase.
A checkered tablecloth.
We hold hands.
Susan and I
Give praise.
Thank You God
For these gifts
We are about to receive
From your bounty
Through Christ our Lord
Amen.
A table of grace.
A world
Round, of grace.
This morning I saw a bluejay
Snatch an eggshell
Susan left for it.
Thank You God.
Yesterday
A cardinal in the winter garden.
Thank You God.
A squirrel eating
Nuts Susan left for it.
A breeze.
Thank You God.
Chimes ringing.
Thank You God.
Birds singing.
Thank You God.
A dog barking.
Thank You God.
Puffy white clouds.
Thank You God.
Editing my photographs.
Thank You God.
Seeing. Seeing.
Sharing. Sharing.
An affirmation
And watercolor
Every day.
Yeats said
“The world is full of magic things,
patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper.”
Thank You God
Morning sunlight
Streaming through bedroom shutters.
Thank You God.
Bright blue sky.
Thank You God
Coffee and toast
With Susan.
Thank You God.
A long walk with Freddy.
Thank You God.
Every day. All day.
Counting.
Gifts of grace.
A world, round
Of grace.
A table, round
Of grace.
Thank You God
For these gifts.
And the greatest
Gift;
Susan.
Thank You God.
