On our way home
From Ogunquit, Maine
To West Springfield, Massachusetts
We drove into a nightmare
In Worcester, Massachusetts
I saw gray and black clouds
Descending from above
Suddenly
We were in a cloud
Enveloping our car
There was no way out
And then rain
Torrential rain
Highway in dark light
Darkness
Darkness
Dim taillights in front of us
Dim headlights behind us
Have I told you about the sound
Not the sea waves and seagulls
Back in Ogunquit
But thousands of tiny drumsticks
Bang banging on the car roof
In Worcester, Massachusetts
Repeat after me:
“I am strong.
I am courageous.
I am not afraid.
I am not discouraged.
For the Lord my God is with me.”
Let me tell you now about my garden.
